Three of these deserve emphasis.
Emergency triage is the crown jewel. During freeze events, overnight emergency call volume can spike to 5–10 times baseline 1. A human receptionist answers one call at a time; an answering service queues; an AI answers every call simultaneously, in seconds, and fires an SMS with the job details to your on-call phone. Any provider claiming their AI handles "everything" is either lying or has never deployed in a real trade. The correct architecture is AI handles the routine 70–80%, humans get the rest, and the routing rules decide which is which.

How to set one up right (whether you hire me or not)
- Review your last 60 days of calls. When do they arrive, what do callers ask, which jobs are worth the most? This data drives every other decision.
- Define your service boundaries. ZIP codes you serve, property types, jobs you do not take. The AI needs these as rules, not vibes 7.
- Write your urgency rules. What counts as emergency, urgent, and routine, and what action each triggers: dispatch text, next-day booking, or standard scheduling 7.
- Keep intake questions short. Only what is needed to route, qualify, and schedule. Long phone intake loses callers.
- Build the escalation ladder. Who gets emergency texts, in what order, and what happens if the first tech does not respond 7.
- Test with real scenarios before going live. Emergencies, gas leaks, out-of-area callers, angry customers, background noise, interrupted callers, people who demand a human 7.
